How to watch IPTV on a Windows PC or Mac
By the IPTV Gold support team 5 min read
To watch IPTV on a Windows PC or Mac, open VLC media player, choose Open Network Stream (Ctrl+N on Windows, Cmd+N on Mac), paste the M3U playlist URL from your IPTV Gold dashboard and press Play. VLC is free and quick for testing; for a TV guide and favourites, use a desktop IPTV player with your Xtream Codes login.
What you need
- A Windows 10/11 PC or a Mac with internet
- VLC media player from the official VideoLAN website (free)
- Your M3U link or Xtream Codes login from your dashboard
Login used on this device: M3U playlist URL (VLC) or Xtream Codes login (desktop players)
Step by step
Install VLC from videolan.org
Download VLC only from the official VideoLAN site to avoid bundled adware, then install it.
Open a network stream
Windows: Media › Open Network Stream (Ctrl+N). Mac: File › Open Network (Cmd+N).
Paste your M3U URL and play
Paste the M3U playlist URL from your dashboard and click Play. Open the playlist view (Ctrl+L on Windows) to browse channels.
Save the playlist for next time
In VLC choose Media › Save Playlist to File (Windows) or File › Save Playlist (Mac) so you can reopen it with a double-click.
Use a full player for the TV guide
VLC doesn't show a TV guide. For an on-screen guide and favourites, install a desktop IPTV player and sign in with your Xtream Codes login.
Your login details, explained
- Xtream Codes login
- A server URL, a username and a password. Most player apps call this “Xtream Codes API” or “Login with Xtream”. It loads live TV, movies, series and the TV guide in one go.
- M3U playlist URL
- One long link that contains your channel list. Use it in players without Xtream Codes support, such as VLC.
- EPG URL
- The TV guide (XMLTV) link. Xtream players load it automatically; with an M3U playlist you may need to paste it separately.
- Portal URL
- Used only by MAG boxes. Save your box's MAC address in your dashboard and we link it to your plan.
Your login details are in your dashboard under Subscription. Keep them private: anyone with them can use your connection, and your plan covers one screen at a time.
What internet speed do I need?
We suggest at least these download speeds for each screen watching at the same time. Test the speed on the device itself.
| Picture quality | Suggested speed per screen |
|---|---|
| SD | 5 Mbps |
| HD / Full HD | 10 Mbps |
| 4K UHD | 25 Mbps |
Tips for a smoother picture
- Connect a laptop to your TV with an HDMI cable for a quick big-screen setup.
- Pause large downloads and cloud backups while watching live sport.
- Keep VLC updated: newer versions handle more stream formats.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| VLC says “Your input can't be opened” | Copy the full M3U URL again, including everything after the question mark, and check that your plan is active in your dashboard. |
| Sound but no picture (or the reverse) | Update VLC, then try Tools › Preferences › Input / Codecs › Hardware-accelerated decoding › Disable. |
| The playlist loads slowly | That's normal for large M3U files in VLC; a desktop player with Xtream login loads categories faster. |
